My
husband and I sat in front of the computer the other night. We answered a series of questions, entered
a few numbers and clicked the button. We had filed our taxes! The better half turns
to me and says, “Our grand-kids will never appreciate how we used to set up a card table for days, pour over the forms
and instructions. I’d do it once, then you would do it and find my mistakes then we would write
it in pen, carefully attach the forms, put it in an envelope, affix a stamp and wait weeks even months for a refund”
He’s right…they’ll never know... lucky them. They’ll also never know what
it’s like:
- to wait a week to see your photos
- to dial a phone or use a phone booth
- to
tune a carburetor
- to play travel bingo or license plate game on road trips
- to get milk out of a glass bottle
from your front step
- to get up and turn the channel (and the volume) on the television
- to break off a giant
icicle from roof to ground and use it as a sword!
- to feel a vinyl LP between your hands, gently place it on the turntable, carefully set the needle
on it and pause to hear it play
- to wait for a letter from a loved one, miles away because it’s too expensive to call.
And…
- to walk up hill both ways to school in snow up to the power lines…
Oops…that’s wasn’t me….that was
my Mom!
