Today
I’m picking up the shoes I’ll be wearing for my daughter’s wedding. I don’t like
shoe shopping anymore. Not that I don’t like shoes…I would love lots of shoes. I often walk
up and down the shoe aisles with longing… a shoe for every occasion. I rarely
buy them anymore, it has something to do with the comfort/style dilemma. I remember when I could wear anything,
from the highest heel to the flattest flip flop. I could get shoes with sparkles, bangles, jewels, or bows
in every color of the rainbow. Of course back then I didn’t have the money to get those shoes. (I
was buying Air Jordans instead). But I could dream of the day I could wear those shoes.
The problem
is my feet got old before my wallet got fat. So what’s the deal? Why do comfortable shoes have to
be ugly? I’m sure sparkles, bangles and jewels would fit on a size 9-1/2W, reasonable heeled shoe.
Oh how I oohed and ahhed over the shoes at the dress shop; all so pretty, dainty, and feminine. But,
my aching feet and back, I was going to be wearing these shoes for hours, maybe even walking distances in them (it’s
Romania after all), in the heat! Sigh…I guess it has to be granny shoes after all. And
then…there they were…the perfect silver shoes; reasonable heel, 9-1/2 wide, sparkly, with a star!
It is going to be a special day.
